The Dating Game

The other day I happened upon an old video that had The Dating Game on it. You know the old series where three young men vied for a date with a young woman who was hidden from their view She would ask questions that would reveal their nature and later choose the one with home she wanted a date. It was also played with a bachelor choosing from three young ladies. Our modern day version would most likely be the Bachelor altho this guy gets to see the girls.

Out of curiosity, I posed the question to the DH and our two daughters as to what would be their criteria for choosing someone. Talk about varied answers! One daughter said definitely grammar...must have raised that one right! The other said it was important to have manners...chalk up another one! Answers like being clean, having a certain style, confidence, good hair cut, wear cool shoes, compassion and the list goes on and on. Some were fluff reasons and others were deep rooted. All three of them could find reasons that they agreed or didn't agree with the attribute. The one thing they all agreed on was humor....which brings me to a quote Joanne Woodward, wife of Paul Newman, said:

“Sexiness wears thin after a while and beauty fades, but to be married to a man who makes you laugh every day, ah, now that's a real treat.”

A huge thanks to Lenorenevermore for beating me to the punch on the quote..great blog by the way..check her out!

So what would be your criteria?

Most of the contestants seemed to be "pervs", so I would go with the most unperverted guy that hopefully had more thoughts up his brain. :O)

Sharing a similar sense of humor is important to me.

I'm with Joanne Woodward on this one! Laughter, and someone who is a good conversationalist.

Oh,yeah, Funny is a must. (Luckily, mine is.) Good manners, a must, too. I have to say sometimes bad manners are just a deal breaker. Bad table manners, hard to live with, impossible to change.

Fun post! Interesting topic. Love that quote.
I love the quote from Joanne Woodward! She and Paul certainly had an amazing relationship to withstand the pressures of Hollywood. The Bachelor / Bachelorette show is so superficial, and I think that is why the romance never lasts.

My Farmboy and I have discussed this topic before and we both agree that someone who can make us laugh and smile every day is at the top of the list.

How I use to love watching that show...I must have been a mere baby at the time....lol!
I think a major criteria, besides good personal hygiene would be sense of humor. It is always so nice to laugh with someone.
Good brain, good heart, good sense of humor, nice smile, nice hands. Shall I continue?

Any one who is SINGLE will know you can't be fussy. There is a serious the MAN Drought phenomenon speeding wide and far.

So if he washes his hand after going to the toilet then this is a sign you have chosen well.
Pushing his chair in after leaving the dinner table is an added bonus.
Absolutely loved the dating game, it was hilarious. And agree completely with the quote from Ms. Woodward. A sense of humor is at the top of my list and everything else naturally falls into place after that.
Have a wonderful weekend!

I totally agree with the sense of humor thing as life is just hard sometime and we all need to laugh.
I think on my list is someone who treats me like I am the most important person in this world.

A good thinker, a compassionate heart, and a great sense of humor :) Not too tall of an order, huh? A little chemistry doesn't hurt either :)

I agree. Humor is so important. My husband makes me laugh all the time and I think its why we are still very much in love.

Oh, I agree on the humor, Alicia. Having a man that can make you smile and laugh is such a treasure. I think too, a man that respects you and cherishes you for who you are...a man that doesn't try to change you, a man that makes you want to be the best you all on your own. I think an intelligent man is extremely important too. I love a man that you can talk to and he teaches you new things, inspires you. How's that for a list??? LOL

Great post! I think the old dating game style was much better than the modern day version too :D

Have a Happy Day, Alicia!
