The last rose...

"'Tis the last rose of summer,
Left blooming alone;
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone."
- Thomas Moore, The Last Rose of Summer, 1830

I woke up this morning to the thermometer reading a very chilly 40 degrees. The wind is howling at 40MPH which to my calculations buts us below freezing. Our Floribunda rose has pushed out its last hurrah, the leaves on the trees are falling, and the smell of ripening apples is in the air. I think I'll be staying inside today and light a nice warm fire to keep warm. Perhaps those apples are calling me to make my DH's favoirte apple is his birthday afterall!

Happy Monday!

The last one is always extra special!
I woke today and felt the cool Autumn air too, very excited- can start to play with layering...finally!
what a pretty rose. we'll be in high 70's today. not sure i'm ready for fall weather just yet.
The ones that last and stand alone are often the most beautiful too.

A cozy fire and warm apple pie - sounds like a nice intimate birthday party to me!

How beautiful dear friend.

I love the words 'the last rose of summer' my mother always played her music from Scotland and on one of the songs they talk about the last rose of summer.

Love Renee xoxo

Beautiful rose! Reminds me of a Peace rose that I planted at a previous house.

UGH! It's still in the high 90's here in Arizona. I'm so ready for some of that crisp fall air. Enjoy your fire and your pie today. I'll be envious as I lick a drippy ice cream cone.
There is something bitter sweet about the last rose of summer. Beautiful photo.

Thank you for stopping by my blog. I am so happy you enjoyed my photography.

Lovely verse.

We can't seem to decide if we want to be in the 90s or in the 70s... just keeps going back and forth.

Brrrrrr! 40 degrees already? Ah, well. This rose is summer's beautiful swan song. I loved your photos from the parade in your town. I so wish I lived there. Looks so welcoming and homey.

And happy birthday to your DH!

I will need to take my bonsai to work very soon!! The frost will be here before I know it. I can not take them inside my house because my cats will eat them.

Oh Happy Birthday, a bit belated, to your DH! Chilly is right. My tomatoes are still ripening and we threw blankets over the plants, but we'll see earlier today how they look. A fire sounds divine :)

This is a very pretty rose of the last one of summer.

My roses are just starting to come back after their winter prune.

I love how changing seasons make you feel. Its a lot cooler her too! My bare toes are freezing while I type this!
What a beautiful rose! We are having perfect weather right now, although your talk of apple pie and warming by the fire has me longing for the chilly autumn nights. I was excited that last night was cool enough to sleep under the comforter. We have had the windows open for several days, and the feels a little chilly, but I love it. Time to pack away the flip-flops and summer dresses and pull out the fleece, boots, and warm slippers!

P.S. I'm having a giveaway, be sure to pop over and enter!
