A Power Nap..

It's Monday and you can tell where my brain is today. I used to think naps were for the old folks...you know, the "it's afternoon and I need to sleep before the early bird special". Remember back to those early days in grade school where the teacher made us pull out our little blue mats and take a forced nap? I hated that part of the day..it was soo boring to me. I could never sleep. We'd giggle, make faces at the teacher all the while having her "Shhh!" us. Once I got up, believe me, I was rarin' to go to recess and chase the boys in a game of tag.

Now that I'm all big and grown up..not an "early bird special" age yet, I find that I have become a consummate nap taker. Recent research is providing evidence that a well-timed afternoon nap may be the best way to combat sleepiness, improve work performance, and overcome the late day grogginess commonly known as the "midday dip." Will it make me smarter? Who knows, but I do feel in a better mood and able to learn new things. I might add..it is a very pleasurable experience! One of these lovely daybeds would certainly put me into a nice slumber, don't you think?

So my grade school teacher wasn't so bad after all. Do you take an afternoon nap to rejuvenate?

I am in love with that last photo. Seeing those photos definitely makes me want a nap...
Alicia! Yes, I do if the day's schedule allows and when so blessed I find it quite delicious. Those daybeds look like cozy little nests where I would love to park for an afternoon of reading, daydreaming, meditating, and yes, perhaps even napping. I like the ones that have no lining. It must be beautiful in there with chinks of sunlight sneaking through.
I am totally a nap taker. Around 3:00pm, it's time for my power nap. Even when I worked I took a nap at lunch time, hee hee. And those daybeds are out of this world, I would love one of those!
If you are interested in playing along, I have an award for you over at my blog.

I was exactly the same! I never wanted a nap in nursery! In fact it is one of my first memories!
I am getting so tired I actually have nodded off in front of this computer, but then again, I was reading a article on different ways to freeze ice.

I love that first little "pod" thingy. I def take naps. I started taking "power naps" in college, but now I can only take them on weekends :(

Only recently did I start taking what my family has always called "nippy naps." Short, usually only 15-20 minutes, to re-energize and re-group. On Saturday afternoons, around 3:00, after getting up at 4:30 or 5:00 AM to do the Farmers Market, my girlfriend and I get her two small boys down for their nap, send her husband out to do "husband things" and we each grab one end of her recliner sofa. Feet up and snuggled into our overstuffed seats, we snicker a bit about the unusual people we met that morning, celebrate a good selling day (or commiserate a poor one). We share memories of our childhood, absent-mindedly pet one of her many cats who'll crawl up to be with us and sometimes even hold hands as we drift off to sleep. It's become a very special friendship ritual we share each Saturday and is wonderfully relaxing.
Naps at home are more the "catch as catch can" variety...leaning back in my computer chair or slumped face down on the keyboard, which has led my husband to remark on occasion..."Nice QWERTY tattoo on your forehead!"
Methinks it might be time to grab a nippy nap right now...I'd love the first one...completely enclosed in my own little cocoon, with just a window from which to observe the hectic life outside...
Lovely post...I do so look forward to this every day...
Hugs!

oh god!!! these are amazing! and i am down with naps, for sure. in fact, instead of working today, I'D RATHER BE NAPPING! but that is generally the case. :)
i'm a huge fan of naps. huge.
and boy would i love to snuggle up in one o' them cosy pods. lovely! :)
I do! I love those photos too! If I need a nap, I take one.

Someone once asked Jacques Cousteau how he stayed so healthy. He said, "I eat when I'm hungry and sleep when I'm tired."

I can't do the nanna nap, I just can't seem to sleep in the day. I think one of these day bed could help me relax and fall asleep though. I can see outside on my deck.

I was so upset when my girls stopped taking an afternoon nap because I would nap with them. Now that I'm an empty-nester I can nap whenever I want - what luxury!
I was like you in grade school. I'd much rather be chasing after cuties than napping. Now I'll give my right arm for 15 minutes of snooze time, all my limbs for that last daybed. How peaceful. I feel my eyelids.....zzzzzzzz
