Cherry Pickin'

Oh how I love summer for the fresh fruit. Couple that with an incredible sister, all the better.

So what does summer fruit and a sister have in common? When I opened the door to my front porch yesterday, a whole lug of cherries was sitting there. Now if you aren't familiar with how much a lug is, try guessing around 28+ pounds. That's a lot of cherries! All these cherries were left by my sister who knows cherries happen to be my all time favorite summer fruit. She always does special things like leaving fresh veggies from her garden on the porch..even fresh eggs. Yesterday, the cherries came with a dozen farm fresh eggs and fresh cream. She knows we're cooks here so there may be an ulterior motive...do you think?

So today, all those farm fresh eggs, cream and some of the cherries went into a cherry clafoutis for her...think I'll make one for us, too. For the rest of the weekend, I'll be cherry pickin' right from the box and enjoying some summer pleasures!

Hope your weekend's terrific!

What a lucky lady - to have such a lovely sister nearby to share fresh produce with you! Love cherry clafoutis - have you ever tried one with ripe plums? So good . . .
Enjoy your weekend and sharing all those goodies with the ones you love.

Alicia,
My sweet mama & I both had tummy aches back around Father's Day... she couldn't stop eating cherries & I couldn't stop shelling salted peanuts from the Roadhouse. We commiserated for several days!

Just checked out "clafoutis" (a word one for me). I'll suggest one to mama, for the next time she finds herself with a table full of yummy good cherries. Meantime, I think I'll try some version myself. Blueberries maybe... or the mandarin oranges sound good.

Peaceful weekend :-)

Oh my stars - that looks amazing! I also love cherries, but I think "a lug" would be a bit too much for me! How nice though that your sister drops produce and eggs off at your doorstep! If she is ever up my way.....
Have a great weekend Alicia. I am off to the mountains for a wedding.

Cherries are my very favorite! The problem is when I buy them I eat them all in less than a day...When they are not in season I have been buying the frozen ones, they are pretty good!

I wish I had a sister. : ) You just introduced me to something new to add to the expanding waistline. I say thanks with mixed emotions!

Do you really have cherries up there? Wow! I am soooo jealous! We have chokecherries, but aren't able to grow "real" cherries (or bing or anything). Yum. Those look wonderful.
What zone (growing) are you in? Maybe I should try planting a cherry tree (or two, or three...). We are zone 3.

I absolutely adore clafoutis! That is a lot of pitting to make a cherry one... Is there anything better than warm cherries in the summer?
I found your blog through Julia's and it is lovely. I can't wait to go back and read old posts.
Have a wonderful weekend,
xo

I am beyond jealous at your good fortune. An accomplished baker AND a sister who provides yummy ingredients?! Sigh.

If you see someone sneaking in the back don't worry, it's just me :)

I'd do anything for some of your cherry confections!

Those look simply delicious! We have a big cherry tree in our backyard - it's so much fun to climb and pick the cherries. The kids climb it too ;-)

Clafoutis is a new word for me to but it sounds yummy! Although I usually only like fresh cherries but not cooked or maraschino type, this sounds really good. Thanks for sharing - I just learned something new!
