Picnic anyone?

Picnic Cutlery Photo Card from jmillen

As the CEO of this organization, I have resigned myself to the fact
that Barrack Obama is our President and that our taxes and government
fees will increase in a BIG way. To compensate for these increases, our
prices would have to increase by about 10%.

But since we cannot increase our prices right now due to the dismal
state of the economy, we will have to lay off six of our employees
instead. This has really been bothering me, since I believe we are
family here and I didn't know how to choose who would have to go.

So, this is what I did. I walked through our parking lot and found six
'Obama' bumper stickers on our employees' cars and have decided these
folks will be the ones to let go. I can't think of a more fair way to
approach this problem. They voted for change, I gave it to them.
I will see the rest of you at the annual company picnic.

A little humor from an apolitical blogger. is DID I luck out?

I had always heard about "blogging" but never really understood the big deal. Kind of normal for me sitting in the back row goofing off. Now I definitely do when you can meet all different ages, from all different parts of the world, tune into blogs with different makes it all worthwhile. So enjoy this little chocolate bowl stuffed with mousse and raspberries one me! We can dream, can't we?

Till tomorrow...

Dorkdom here I come....

So today I'm heading off to the big city...there really isn't one here in this area but it sounds good. After a year of arguing with these two little gremlins that sit on my shoulder, I'm going to finally cut off all the locks. One gremlin..the little angel one...says just a trim please. The other one...the "who really gives a damn" devil...says chop it off and bleach it! You have to has been a year and for a good reason. Hairdressers out here turn women into Stepford Wives...they all come out looking the same. I have yet to find one that looks at your face, listens to your lifestyle and cuts with total ease to give you that perfect hairstyle. So for today...a new hairdresser and who knows what will walk out of the place. I've heard that a bad haircut is only two weeks away from a good one. Today...I'm entering dorkdom!

Today is the last day to enter for the giveaway and don't be shy if you've posted a comment. You can certainly add another...just click on the pretty purple necklace in the sidebar and say "I'm in!" Ms. Dork here will be back around 4 this afternoon (central time) and I'll post the lucky winner!! Hope you all have a great Wednesday!

First Impressions

Nancy Dell-Ollio
It seems that every spring I want to change something and it usually means cutting off my long hair. I'm not any Dell-Ollio with the hair but the tresses are long. Gratuitous here...I was one of those old (way old...) Breck Girls and we aren't talking about being a John Edwards girl. I read once that a woman always gravitates back to her original hair style she had in high school. Now that's a bad hair day!!

So I asked my DH what he thought would look good.
His reply.."Hon,' I don't see the hair, the first thing I see are the eyes". He's a romantic.

For me, when I meet someone the first thing I look at are the hands. They can really tell a story.

So I posed the question to my daughter, NodtoMod...way younger than me btw...
What's the first thing you notice when you meet someone?
NodtoMod: "Easy...I look at the shoes. If I don't like them I know we aren't compatible in the style department." My other daughter had met a guy and the first thing she said was, "Mom...he wore great shoes!" What the heck? I'm really out of touch here.

What's the first thing you notice when you meet someone?

Tomorrow I'll be posting a fabulous...well I think it is...giveaway for a piece of Art Deco jewelry. Y'all check back in!

I Need A Dose of Activated Brown Fat

Looking for that new diet? What if you had a special kind of fat in your body that burned calories instead of storing them—and it could be activated simply by spending time in the cold? Oh...I have the one up here living in the frigid climate we do.

According to three studies published in New England Journal of Medicine, we all have some form of brown fat. Babies, young children and small animals use brown fat to stay warm in low temperatures. Supposedly, older people don't retain this brown fat but they have found that we do...yippee!

So if you're looking for an easy way to loose weight, lower that thermometer, shed your clothes (that may lead to another exercise ;D ), and dive into a pool of frigid water..xnay that other exercise now!

Happy Earth Day!!

Bangle Lust....Tuesday's Picks!

I have to admit, the one piece of jewelry that I always have on hand to wear is a bangle bracelet not that I wear a ton of jewelry ever. Come the summer, that means sleeveless tops and sundresses that put an accent on these untoned upper arms that seem to keep on waving long after I stop moving the hand. Bangles have always remained in style...stacked...colorful...wide...elegant gold filled...simple design. All great for one's arsenal of arm adornment. Of course, I'm a vintage fan so these picks all suit my jewelry lust.

Don't forget to tune in for my 100th post where I'm planning a vintage piece of jewelry from my store for a giveaway. Hmmm...wonder what that will be? I think you'll be glad you stopped by!

Friend Makin' Monday..Handsome Guys!!

Friend Makin' Monday is a totally fun post after a great weekend. Head on over to Andrea's blog My Chihuahua Bites to link up and find out the hype on FMM! Who deosn't like to make new friends and find out a little...well quite a lot actually..about some hidden secrets!

Who are your top five celebrity crushes? What celebrities make you drool?

Ahhh...Johnny Depp holds all the cards. Piercing eyes, strong jaw, delicate lips. Sigh...I need to stop thinking right now. A man with his own style. The Ninth Gate and Chocolat...delicious in both. I couldn't stand his stupidity in The Pirates of the Carribean but he was still great to look at.'s the others.

Sean blues all the way! I was not a fan of his 007 Bond movies but the older he got, the sexier. His accent is over the top and a gentleman? Hey...he even has a SIR in front of his name. For an older guy, I think he has awesome sex appeal.

Hugh Jackman. Oh yeah...great face...really love that smile and strong appeal. It was painful to see him hosting the Oscars as he has so much other talent. He's a tall drink of water and a bod to die for!

Colin Firth...such a gentleman. His English accent has total appeal along with that brooding look. He was fabulous in A Girl With the Pearl Earring and the mini series Pride and Prejudice. Ok...I'm a Jane Austen Fan, too. What a scrumptious Mr Darcy!

Carey who could resist that cleft chin and those come hither eyes? Loved so many of the old black and whites he was in. To Catch a Thief was one of my favorite movies but it didn't hurt that he was starring opposite the ethereal beauty Grace Kelly!

After looking at my lusty hotties, without realizing, all these guys have several points in common. I like a guy with a strong jaw, dark hair...narry a blonde in the group save for Connery who is gray...some kind of facial hair, accent, great eyes and nice lips. I wonder if these are on eHarmony? Now should I post a picture of my husband?

Ok ladies, who rocks your boat?

RPF...Out of the closet!

View of the round pond & pastures

My last name is Boyle...just plain Boyle. Many people have asked "What's with the rpf if your name is Boyle?" So dear readers, I've decided to lift the veil, come out of the closet so to speak. No, not that closet!

I've always had a love for horses but career choices made that difficult to come to fruition. After living in NY and Miami, my husband and I decided to retire (misnomer for sure as it only meant a change in career) to the gorgeous mountains of NC. I could have that farm I had always know...retired and all meant lots of time. So we purchased a run down farm in the mountains, renovated it and put the finishing touches complete with barn and fencing. One needs a name, don't you?
Round Pond Farm

Round Pond Farm barn & riding ring

Oh, the horses came followed by showing, driving (Meadowbrook cart and Haflinger), daughter actually would do back flips off those huge about a nightmare for a mother to watch! I'll have to do a later post on the characters that lived with us. Anyone who knows horses or farms knows they aren't cheap to maintain. Hay, feed, and the biggest bills. So to fuel my passion, I started to sell antiques online. I thought I would just use a name that was easy to remember for me..the gray cells were down at the barn! boylerpf became the name. Never in a million years did I dream that this innocent venture would become my second obsession!
Early morning Blue Ridge Mountain Mist

Fast forward many years and many buyers later...I can't get rid of the moniker!!! You know...product identity and all. I'm thinking I should have a blog giveaway for an item in the shop as I am coming up on my 100th post. A little something from a horse lovin', antique jewelry totin', blog musin' lady. What do you think? You in?

Get Busy Livin'

One of my favorite movies was the Stephen King movie "The Shawshank Redemption".

Get busy living or get busy dying

No gray area here...just two simple choices. Here's to a livin' Thursday!

We're in the studio shooting today for NodtoMod Vintage so will be back tomorrow with a post on RPF. Got your curiosity up?

The Eyes have it...need a doc for sure!

The following illusion looks like a couple of blocks not doing anything. Can you see the words within these blocks? Try closing your eyes just a little bit, looking through your eyelashes just as you did with those silly 3-D photos.

Remember back in the day those 3-D pictures you had to fuzz up your vision to see the embedded image? That was all the rage for quite some time. They used to drive me nuts but I still did them anyway just to stretch the mind and vision. It wasn't as if I really accomplished anything other than to say "I can see it". I do love optical illusions though. I think the mind works in such mysterious ways. Not that I really want to find out how it works, but always say "aha" I get it.

Here's a hint in a smaller version:

So that's why I need to wear reading glasses...humph!

Have a superb Wednesday!

Shed Some Pounds Tax Post...

Recession in mind here, a recent Rueters News article had this to say:

"Our calls are up 280 percent," said Richard Boggs, founder and chief executive of Los Angeles-based Nationwide Tax Relief, a firm that helps delinquent taxpayers resolve tax issues.

"We've seen a huge rise in what we call the rookie delinquent taxpayer," he said. "They are incredibly scared, and they have no idea what's going to happen to them because, God bless them, they've never owed before." More of the self-employed, who are required to pay taxes each quarter, are likely to end up with back taxes.

The article goes on to read that the IRS has been given more flexibility in their collection actions. Take for instance this elderly lady in Austin, Texas in which her $3,000 debt to the IRS grew to around $60,000 in taxes and penalties over 16 years despite the fact that she paid off the initial debt within six months!

I fall into one the "self-employed" category as do most online sellers. Procrastination is the name of the game in our household when it comes to tax time. We always say we'll do it earlier each year but for some's a pill that we don't like to swallow especially with today's economic downturn. Several hours later, a gazillion questions and even more numbers...the taxes are done. I'm breathing a sigh of relief...yeah right....and have to say, it really is a great thing for a diet..where did that come from?...just think of how much those $$$ weigh and you can shed pounds in one sitting!!

So...what the heck does a piece of jewelry have to do with taxes? Today only...take 10% off anything in my shop.'s called "the tax man is coming" and I'm feeling svelte!!

Best Advice..Friend Makin' Monday

I normally don't do two posts in one day but couldn't resist this "challenge". I tuned into Kasey's blog All That is Good where every Monday a question is posed for you to answer to get to know other bloggers...Friend Makin' Monday. Head on over and check out some of the responses...they are all thought provoking and some humorous, too! Great idea and the question for Monday is also a good one.

What is the best advice someone has ever given you?

Now that is really a thought provoking question for in my old age..haha..I have been told many words of wisdom that I try to live by. My Father always told me to live for the moment. Don't worry about yesterday, tomorrow...just right now. When everything seems to be swirling around me and I just don't know which way to turn, I remember this phrase. It really puts thing in perspective and also has let me prioritize what needs to be. Not easy to live by because we all get caught up in what if's and I should have's. So many times I have just let that moment go and it will never happen I try to just enjoy everything!

What's the best advice you've ever received?

Monday's Picks...Decadent Fringe Bibs!

The runway season was full of gaudy, decadent fringe bib necklaces from all the designers. Not as if that makes them special as these beauties have always withstood the marching of time. Even as far back as the Victorian days, huge bib style necklaces have been the rage and continue to be today. During war time and minimalism, fringe bibs were made of celluloid and plastic which carried through to the 50s and onward. Great worn with jeans and a t-shirt or to dress up something simple, fringe bibs will always stay the course of evolving fashion.

Enjoy a few of my favorites!

Tis the Season...

The colors of nature always amaze me...they just can't be duplicated.

The sun finally decided to show today and the temps are reaching 40s. As this is the season for rebirth, I couldn't help but take a walk to the local nursery, Harvest Gardens. A family owned business that gives each and every plant personal attention. People come from many states around just to purchase their plants. They aren't open for business yet as spring has just is ND after all.

I snapped a few photos of my favorite flowers. Purple, pink and white happen to be the colors of the Suffrage Movement throughout Europe and the US. How appropriate for the Easter!

The head planter, one of my P.E.O. sisters, and me (scrambled egg glasses!).

My hat's off to the beauty of nature!
